Smriti to meet state education secretaries

A high-level meeting of state secretaries of higher and technical education will deliberate on various issues in New Delhi on Tuesday.

A high-level meeting of state secretaries of higher and technical education will deliberate on various issues in New Delhi on Tuesday.

This will be the first meeting of HRD minister Smriti Irani with education secretaries of the states.

Among the various issues that will be taken up at the meeting are the roll-out of Rashtriya Ucchathar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), national mission on teachers, and teaching and infrastructure requirements for new central universities/IITs/IIMs and other institutions.

Other subjects that will be discussed are mandatory accreditations, technical education quality-improvement programmes, community colleges, sub-mission of polytechnics, direct transfer of scholarships and fellowships and all-India survey on higher education..

The state governments may like to explore the possibilities of starting integrated B.Sc/B.A+B.Ed programmes and also rejuvenating the existing departments of education within state universities.

The meeting will also discuss infrastructure requirements of new central universities including CU of Gujarat, CU of Himachal Pradesh, CU of Tamil Nadu, HNB Garhwal University, Uttarakhand, and CU of Bihar.
