Israel’s offensive on Gaza is turning out to be a political trouble for the UPA government. The coalition’s constituent Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has now demanded that India snap all its ties with Israel. One of the oldest allies of the Congress, IUML’s president E Ahmed is the Minister of State for External Affairs.

A series of rallies and protest meetings will be organised across Kerala to register protest against the Israeli aggression, IUML chief Panakkad Syed Mohamdali Shihab Thangal said. The Left is training its guns on the UPA for its proximity to Israel, cornering both the Congress and the IUML.

Large sections of Indians, particularly it’s the Muslim population, sympathise with the Palestinian demand for an independent homeland.

“Israel is killing thousands of innocent people. World leaders should prevail upon it to stop the inhuman killings. India should snap all ties with Israel to send out a strong message,” Thangal said.

Ahmed, who didn’t make the demand himself, told Hindustan Times: “What is happening in Gaza is unacceptable to the civilized world, 1.5 million people are under siege.” IUML has asked him to convey its concern to the Congress.
