Fresh snowfall in various parts of Doda, Bhaderwah, Thathri, Gondho, Bhalessa and Kishtwar on Tuesday has left people in the Chenab region reeling.
In Doda, heavy snowfall was reported in Bharat Nagni, El Kund, Peepran Basam Gul, Dessa Valley Deeni Top, Marmat and Koti Makhan Bagi. In Bhaderwah, Kailash Kund Jayee, Padri and Soun Bayeen, and in Thathri, Mierphat, Giran Serah, Zenhar and Mahari recorded heavy snowfall.
Similar reports were received from areas near the Himachal border, including Kaljugassar, Rajpora, Ladou, Tantna, Koyya Kharangal, Tipri Halaran, Patnazi and Kither Bonjwah. Reports from Kishtwar area said heavy snowfall was recorded in Dachan, Marwah Wardwon, Paddar, Ihshtari Gandhari, Keshwon, Sigdi Thakraee and other parts of the Chenab Valley.
Due to the snowfall, people in remote parts of the region reported acute shortage of kerosene and ration and poor power supply. People in various areas told HT that the department of consumer affairs and public distribution has not distributed ration for December yet.
The authorities in Doda and Kishtwar districts have directed the officers concerned to "be ready to face any challenge and provide help in terms of power supply, drinking water, ration and kerosene to common people in general, and the needy in particular", so that they do not face any problem due to heavy snowfall. Locals have appealed to the authorities concerned to provide uninterrupted power supply to the township, besides adequate kerosene and ration supply.
Meanwhile, people in Doda, Bhaderwah, Thathri, Gondho, Bhalessa and Kishtwar have alleged that the department of power development and public health engineering was not performing its duties, in spite of the tall claims of the higher authorities that they have made the possible arrangements to provide uninterrupted water and power supply to the people of the area.
