PDP member of Shangus legislative assembly Peerzada Mansoor alleged people in Kashmir Valley were facing hardships due to the government's failure to take preventive measures.

"The meteorological department had forecast heavy snowfall, but the inept state government failed to respond," he alleged.

He added that many parts of the Shangus assembly segment were cut off from the rest of the country because heavy snow on the roads had not been cleared.

"The process of clearing the roads has been going on at a snail's pace, and the miseries of the masses have been compounding with each passing day. All claims of the government have remained only on paper," he alleged.

The MLA said ration and other essential commodities should be supplied in these inaccessible areas through helicopters and rescue operations should be started on a war-footing.

He demanded that stranded Kashmir-bound passengers should be provided all facilities at Jammu.
