A software engineer committed suicide by hanging herself after her father, a senior government officer, refused to let her marry a young man from another caste, the police said on Thursday.

The incident occurred Wednesday in Sector 56 of Noida, adjoining the Indian capital, said Superintendent of Police Mahesh Mishra, identifying the victim as Reena Singh, 24.
Mishra said Reena Singh separated from her parents after a rift with her father. It were her friends who found her hanging in her bedroom.
