The duo reportedly used to lure people through ads in local dailies.

The action was initiated following a complaint of UP Technical University student Virendra Dikshit. The cops recovered Rs 35,000 in cash, cheque-books and fake documents including marksheets, ration cards, domicile certificates and stamps from the possession of the accused.

The complaint given to IG Zone CN Singh stated that Dikshit had contacted the accused duo after going through an ad published in two Hindi dailies recently. The youth was asked to pay Rs 2,000 as an entry fee for the friendship club.

Despite several visits by them and making calls to the accused, the youth never was given any number or provided any detail about a friend. The IG asked the SOG team to probe the case and the police team laid a trap for the accused.

The duo revealed during interrogation that they were engaged in duping people for past one-and-half years. They confessed to have cheated several persons and duped them of several thousand of rupees so far.
