Former Gujarat minister of state for home affairs Amit Shah, arrested in connection with the 2005 Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, left for Mumbai on Sunday morning.
The Supreme Court, acting on an appeal filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) seeking cancellation of Shah's bail, had directed Shah to stay out of Gujarat till November 15, when the court will hear the case.
"Amit bhai has already left for Mumbai where he will celebrate Diwali at his sister's place. He will not return to Gujarat unless and until further order from the apex court," a close associate of Shah said.
On Thursday, Justice R H Shukla of the Gujarat High Court had granted bail to Shah after a special CBI court rejected it on October 8.
Shah was released from jail around 10:30 pm on Thursday, which is considered violation of jail manual that prohibits release of any inmate after sunset.
However, the CBI had moved the Supreme Court seeking cancellation of the bail on the ground that the high profile accused is a powerful politician and would try to influence witnesses and tamper with evidence.
The court issued a notice to Shah and directed him to stay out of the state till November 15 when the matter will be heard in the bench of Justice RS Lodha and Justice Aftab Alam in the apex court, which monitors the probe in the sensational fake encounter case.

{{/usCountry}}Sheikh was killed in an alleged fake encounter near Ahmedabad by a joint police team of Rajasthan and Gujarat in November 2005. His wife Kauser Bi was also killed. A year later, his close aide Tulsi Prajapati was shot in a staged encounter near Ambaji in Gujarat.
