“TAKE UP problems of the city and try to provide a solution to them”.
This was Dr M Anandkrishnan’s first advice to scientists and professors of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, (IIT-K). The eminent scientist made the statement in his first address as chairman board of governors (BoG) IIT-K.

Dr Anandkrishnan asked the professors to develop cordial relations with the people of the city. “They should get the feeling that the institute was concerned about their problems and was also ready to extend a helping hand,” he said .
Talking to Hindustan Times, deputy director of IIT-K Dr Kripa Shanker said Dr Anandkrishnan, who had a long association with the city, was aware of the problems here. “The chairman asked the professors to try and solve the problems through technological developments and also included it in the jubilee agenda for detailed discussions,” Dr Shanker added.
Though, the chairman did not specify any particular area, he felt that efficient garbage disposal, ensuring good roads, regular power supply, improving the transport services as a whole could be studied at length, Dr Shanker said.
About the issues discussed during the meeting, he said that only routine business and those related to internal management were taken up. Dr Anandkrishnan also inspected various departments and laboratories at the institute and evaluated the ongoing projects.
