Here are the brief accounts of some air tragedies averted just on time this year at Mumbai airport.

August 28, 2009: A major disaster was averted at the Mumbai airport, when the pilot of an Air India cargo plane spotted fire raging in a consignment that was to be loaded onto the aircraft.

August 26, 2009: A Bangalore-bound Air India flight with 87 passengers on board returned to Mumbai airport after being air-borne for around 35 minutes due to a technical problem.

August 20, 2009: A bomb threat was reportedly received in a Mumbai call centre for a Melbourne-bound Singapore Airlines flight that was preparing to land.

August 23, 2009: Two private aircraft took off from the same runway at Mumbai airport even though only one was given ATC clearance.

August 14, 2009: A full security drill was carried out at the Mumbai Airport after an airport official received two phone calls that a bomb was kept in one of the store rooms of the under-construction terminal 1C.

June 1, 2009: 220 passengers aboard a Kolkata-bound Jet flight and a Shanghai-bound Air India flight had a narrow escape when the two aircraft aborted take-off just in time while heading towards each other at Mumbai airport.
