The easiest way to breathe new life into a room is by changing the wall decor. Ruchi Malhotra, creative director, Silk Road and Beyond says, "Wall decors can be anything that adds life to your home. There is no need to follow strict rules, just do it in your own artistic way. Make use of anything in a creative way to come up with something exceptional."

While paintings and clocks are common wall hangings, there are some non-traditional ways to liven up walls, too.

Paper art
Wallpapers come with many benefits, such as durability and the ability to hide cracks or uneven surfaces. “Wallpapers are never out of fashion as they give you the combination of colour, pattern, texture and finish for an inspiring aesthetic effect,” says Ashwini Narula, design head, Benchcraft.

Interesting getaways
“Have textured wall finishes and create a showcase of art in your own home to create a dramatic effect,” says Malhotra. However, the size of the wall art should also be given serious consideration. Big may be beautiful, but only if it creates the right visual effect. “It may be more suitable to have two or three pieces positioned in close proximity to each other,” she says.

Light it up
If you think paintings are passé, perhaps lights could add the bright touch you are aiming for. “Wall mounted lights provide light but their primary purpose is now to act as décor,” says Deepak Whorra of Episode.
