Sonepat minor rape victim dies in Rohtak hospital

The-16-year-old dalit girl, who was raped by her neighbour on January 5, succumbed to her injuries, here at PGIMS on Thursday morning. The victim, a student of class 10, immolated herself on January 11, following which she was undergoing treatment at Rohtak.

The-16-year-old dalit girl, who was raped by her neighbour on January 5, succumbed to her injuries, here at PGIMS on Thursday morning.

The victim, a student of class 10, immolated herself on January 11, following which she was undergoing treatment at Rohtak.

As per details, victim was rushed to PGIMS on January, 11 from Kharkhodda civil hospital, after she locked herself and immolated by pouring kerosene at her residence in Kharkhodda town.

Though the incident of rape took place on January, 5, but victim didn't reveal it to anyone. It was only when her mother insisted her to reveal the details, she narrated the whole act on January 11, before setting herself afire the same day.

Doctors attending her at medical college here told HT, "The victim had received around 95% burn injuries, which made her condition irreparable".

In her statement to police, victim told that Rakesh Kumar, a taxi driver waylaid her when she was going to school on January, 5 and then lured her to drop her home, but instead took her to an outside locations and committed the crime.

She also alleged that accused had threatened her not to reveal anything about the crime, but she couldn't hold it any longer, when her parents confronted her.

The accused had been arrested within hours of registration of FIR by Kharkhodda police on January, 11.
