APPARENTLY IRKED over the unsavoury remarks by AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh and his acolyte former minister K P Singh against Guna MP Jyotiraditya Scindia at their recent Shivpuri rally, Congress president Sonia Gandhi has directed party men to desist from organising rallies at individual level.
The Pradesh Congress Committee and District Congress Committees have been authorised in this regard by her. She has issued directives in this regard to the AICC General Secretary in charge of party affairs in the State V Narayanasami.
PCC spokesperson Manak Agrawal said on Wednesday that Sonia Gandhi’s tough action was apparently aimed at maintaining unity in the party.
Bickering at the level of senior party functionaries has come to the fore with the supporters of former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh and party MP Jyotiraditya Scindia organising separate rallies at different places mainly in Chambal region. While Scindia’s meetings were attended by the PCC chief Subhash Yadav, Singh’s rallies were organised by his supporters at various places. Yadav is also understood to have communicated to the party high command that rallies being organised by leaders on their individual level was not sending the right message and party interests were being harmed.
Meanwhile, Digvijay Singh is scheduled to address a similar rally at Sagar on Thursday. Sources close to Digvijay Singh said that he would go ahead with the rally since preparations for the rally were being made for quite sometime and it was not possible to cancel the rally now. They further said that rally at Sagar would not violate directive of the party president since it was being organised by the DCC.

Digvijay Singh could not be contacted for comments as he was on from Raipur.
