Congress president Sonia Gandhi addressing two rallies in Jharkhand’s Daltonganj and Gumla on Sunday blamed the BJP’s bad governance for fuelling the growth of left-wing extremism (LWE) in the state.
Addressing the masses at Daltonganj, Gandhi said that BJP had ruled Jharkhand for most of the time since it was curved out of Bihar, and urged the people to ask the BJP leaders what their governments did for the state.
Gandhi said that solution to the Maoist problem was development and the country’s natural resources should be in the hands of the people for their development.
When the UPA government was at the Centre, crores of rupees were given to Jharkhand for implementation of developmental programmes including education, healthcare, electricity and drinking water, but were not utilised by the BJP-ruled state governments.
BJP had been in power in the state for 10 out of the 14 years since the state was formed in 2000, she said.
The AICC president claimed that it was the efforts and schemes of the previous UPA regime that was now helping the nation in its march towards becoming one of the developed countries.
Appealing to the Maoists to lay down the arms, Gandhi said that politics of violence cannot take anyone anywhere and urged the rebels, who had deviated from the right path, to join the mainstream for the development of the state.

She urged voters not to go with communal forces and elect the Congress. “The Congress party believes in an inclusive growth. Dalits, adivasis, women are all our partners. However, the BJP believes in fomenting division society,” she said.
At Gumla, Gandhi cautioned the voters to be very careful while electing a new government in the state. “The BJP leaders are making tall promises but do not get befooled by their false proclamations. Elect a government that can transform the ground realities and safeguard the interest of the common man.”
Electioneering for the first phase of the assembly polls in the state came to an end on Sunday.
Polling to decide the fate of 199 candidates in 13 assembly segments in the first phase will take place on November 25.
