Following the example of the Congress chief, all such MPs who were holding the post of profit, must resign, he added.

He pointed out that the proposed bill on the issue, which was to be put up before Parliament by the UPA government, was meant to achieve consensus on the issue and not to shield anyone.

Replying to a query, he said that Sonia Gandhi was not the only one who was holding two posts but she was the only person who resigned. Criticising the State Government for its failure to maintain law and order, Khurshid said the criminals were ruling roost and women were being assaulted.

Talking about Meher Bhargav murder case in the state capital, he said , “The police tried its level best to suppress the case but even the Congress Party exerted a lot of pressure on the State Government but nothing concrete was done to work out the case and arrest the criminals who were involved in the murder case.” He added that all development work had come to a standstill and the state government had lost the moral right to stay in power any more.

He expressed his satisfaction at the growing strength of Congress Party in the city. “After Amethi and Rae Barelli, Kanpur is the only city where the Congress is in a commanding position,” Khurshid said.

He exhorted the party workers to launch a campaign for the dismissal of the Samajwadi Party-led state government.
