The Congress would, as always, uphold the cause of the weaker sections and farmers, said Congress president Sonia Gandhi while thanking the people of Rajasthan on Tuesday for voting the party to power in the state.
Virtually launching campaign for the Lok Sabha elections, Gandhi told a rally at Amroodon ka Bagh here that the BJP was responsible for the stagnation of Rajasthan.
She said, “As against the allocation of Rs 1,000 crore during the NDA regime to Rajasthan, the UPA government had released Rs 40,000 crore in the past five years.” and the overall condition of the state would have been better if the previous BJP government had not mishandled the funds.
Gandhi also sent out a firm reminder to the Gehlot government that all the pre-poll promises must be met. She said, “The new Gehlot government should retain the faith reposed by the people in the policies and programmes of the Congress party.”
Finally, Gandhi remarked, “The primary duty of the government is to encourage the youth who are the future of the country.”
Earlier, she dedicated India's longest 1,054-km Mundra-Delhi petroleum product pipeline to the nation. The pipeline, built by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation at Rs 1,757 crore, played a pivotal role in keeping the supply line intact during the recent strike by the public sector oil executives.
