Sonia expressed optimism that her party would form the next government at the Centre. Sonia hit out at the BJP's 'feel good' campaign, saying the party had spent crores of rupees on a false publicity campaign. "These people (the BJP) do not realise the reality in the country and the condition of the people," she said.

She referred to unemployment, poverty and farmers' problems to buttress her point. She also referred to corruption during the BJP regime and said the party had betrayed the trust of the people.

"Our daughters and sisters are not safe in their houses in Delhi. Even Parliament is attacked under BJP rule," she said.

Referring to the Gujarat riots, she asked, "Can such people feel any pain for the country?"

She also took a dig at the Prime Minister Vajpayee's health, saying he kept forgetting what he said.

Congress leaders Ahmed Patel, Moti Lal Vora, R.K. Dhawan, Shivraj Patil, CM Sheila Dikshit, DPCC president Prem Singh and Anil Shastri attended the rally.
