MAYOR SUNIL Sood on Thursday raised a hue and cry over the removal of an alleged illegal construction in a Congress leader-owned restaurant. After the removal of the illegal construction, Sood even recommended suspension of the official, who was leading the anti-encroachment team.
However, BMC Commissioner Manish Singh said the removal of this illegal construction was long overdue. According to information, the BMC squad this morning reached to remove the alleged illegal construction in a restaurant at Karod – Vyanjan.
The restaurant is owned by Kishore Singh, brother of senior Congress leader and former MP Surendra Singh Thakur. The Mayor is learnt to have tried to scuttle removal work after getting this information. He issued directives to the officials on BMC wireless system. Sood also tried to contact the staff present at the site on their mobile phones. But the officials didn’t pick up the Mayor’s call.
According to information, Kishore Singh even slapped a BMC employee, who also retaliated resulting in a scuffle. However, the BMC team removed the alleged illegal construction.
When asked, Mayor Sunil Sood told the Hindustan Times that the action was taken intentionally despite the stay order from the court. The Mayor said that he would not allow ‘pick and choose’ policy in the BMC. He said all the illegal constructions should be dealt in keeping with rules. Sood said illegal construction of Vyanjan Restaurant was compoundable according to provisions of the Municipal Corporation Act.
