In what may revolutionise the way the public approaches the police, an idea was presented to all police chiefs of the country during the annual meeting in Guwahati to adopt an ATM like machine called the 'Instant Complaint Logging Internet Kiosk' (ICLICK) which has the ability to receive both voice and written complaints.
The kiosk will be installed with the bank ATMs and one doesn't need to go to police station to lodge complaint.
"The idea was discussed during the session on more responsive police. The police chiefs were receptive to the idea. However, issues such as who will bear the cost and political nod for the system also came up for discussion," said a participant in the meeting.
The kiosk has been developed by the Odisha police and it has now been adopted by the Bureau of Police Research and Development.
One such kiosk was showcased at the conference venue as well.
The complaint can be lodged in three ways. The first option of registering complaint is to type using the touch screen.
Another way is the speaker mode. The complaint can be recorded and it will be directly transmitted to the police control room.

{{/usCountry}}The third option is to put a written complaint inside the kiosk and get a receipt of it. It will be scanned by the machine and sent to the contorl room.
The kiosk was installed in Bhubaneswar on trial bases for women complainants.
"The complainants will no longer remain at the mercy of thanedars to lodge their complaints in years to come if the country adopts the kiosk in a big way," said senior Intelligence Bureau official.
