The housing board is taking steps to ensure a speedy disbursal of houses. It is planning online filing of forms and also employing special software to scrutinise the forms instantly during the filling stage itself.

“We have to thoroughly check lakhs of applications and this took time,” said Gautam Chatterjee, chief executive officer, MHADA, told HT.

He said the software of the lottery system would not be scrapped. He said the delay was because of manual checking of the forms.

While the MHADA issued forms in January, the draws were held in May.

The applicants accused the housing board of delaying the procedure to gain interest from the amount deposited by them.

In the revised format, either the applicants can fill the forms themselves or the banks authorised by MHADA would fill the forms for them.

Applicants would also be required to fill their date of birth and the details of their saving accounts in the application forms. “The forms are scrutinised immediately. Anyone who tries to fill multiple forms would not be able to do so as the computer will not accept the form,” he added.

Incomplete forms would not be accepted by the new system.

MHADA has asked citizens to report to it if they know any of the recent lottery winners who already own a house.

According to MHADA rules, you cannot avail of the low-cost houses if you already own a house. “We have got six complaints and are investigating,” said Chatterjee.
