Allies of embattled Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren have demanded that he quit immediately to clear the political uncertainity following his failure to enter the state assembly.
"We all adhere to the Constitution. And Guruji (Soren) should have resigned immediately after his defeat in the Tamar bypoll. He should resign forthwith," Deputy Chief Minister Stephen Marandi said in Ranchi.
Soren, who met his party MLAs yesterday, said the JMM had decided to intimate the central UPA leadership that their party leaders would not accept anything less than one of their own MLAs succeeding the present chief minister. Senior RJD MLA and ex-minister Girinath Singh also said it would be better if Soren resigned without "wasting any more time".
Asked on the JMM leaders bid to project one of their own MLAs for the top seat, Singh said, "Unless Soren resigns, nothing could be discussed."
Congress MLA Sukhdev Bhagat said the Congress had first supported Independent MLA Madhu Koda and later Soren and there should be no more experiment.
"We have faxed a letter to the high command venting our feelings that there should a Congress-led government in the state or seek fresh elections under president's rule," Bhagat said.
