The Samajwadi Yuvjan Sabha leaders assembled in the Bairhana locality of the city, shouting slogans against Raj Thackeray's "parochial politics that is posing a threat to the nation's integriy".

They also demanded that the UPA government at the Centre and the Congress-led regime in Maharashtra take adequate steps to rein in Thackeray, "who is giving a bad name to Marathi culture".

The Maharashtra Navanirman Sena leader, who is pursuing an aggressive pro-Marathi politics, had lashed out at Jaya Bachchan, a Rajya Sabha MP and wife of Mega Star Amitabh Bachchan for her recent statement saying, "We are from UP and hence we will speak in Hindi".

The comments were made by Bachchan at the music release function of a film starring her son Abhishek.
