SP, BSP accuse each other of doing little for Muslims

Samajwadi Party members, who raised the issue through an adjournment notice during the Zero Hour, cited the reports of Sachchar and Rangnath Misra Committees to stress that the condition of Muslims was worse than that of Dalits.

They alleged that the community's representation in government jobs has come down from 34 per cent at the time of Independence to 2 per cent.

Lauding the works undertaken by former chief minister and SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav for ameliorating the lot of Muslims, party MLA Imram Massod flayed the present regime for
benefitting only one caste through its various schemes.

It had been only Mulayam Singh Yadav who had earnestly worked for the development of Muslims, SP members including Arif Anwar Hasmi, R S Usmai, Sahdab Fatima and Javed Ansari
said, adding there was resentment among the community due to the neglect.

While Verma described Yadav as the biggest enemy of Muslims, Siddiqui said that the community would never pardon him come what may and went on to cite the various schemes launched by the Mayawati government for their welfare.

The SP members trooped into the well of the House raising anti-government slogans and staged a sit-in in the well as the Speaker Sukhdev Rajbhar rejected the notice.
