FOR THE second consecutive day on Monday, the State Election Commission (SEC) was flooded with complaints regarding bogus voting and rigging during the nagar palika parishad poll.
The SEC officials were stunned when the BJP, the Congress and the Samajwadi Party leaders from Gonda submitted memoranda demanding re-polling.
While the leaders of Samajwadi Party demanded re-polling on all the 83 booths, the Congress and the BJP said it should not be countermanded. They demanded action against the district administration officers who had send wrong information about bogus voting and rigging.
SEC officials said Gonda was the only district where the ruling party leaders had demanded re-poll. They also complained about irregularities on poll day. On the other hand, Opposition parties opposed a re-poll.
Congress and BJP leaders alleged that as the defeat of the Samajwadi Party in the Nagar Palika Parishad election had become certain their leaders were crying hoarse.
Minister of State for Medical Education Vinod Kumar Singh alias Pandit Singh was putting pressure on the district administration for re-polling.
A delegation of BSP leaders too met the SEC officials and demanded re-poll for Hardoi Nagar Palika Parishad. BSP supported candidate Sukhsagar Mishra alleged that SP candidate Umesh Agarwal, who was the brother of Transport Minister Naresh Agarwal, He not only violated model code of conduct, but also indulged in rigging and bogus voting. The district administration officials remained mute spectator to the misdeeds of the SP leaders, they alleged.

Congress candidate Aashish Mishra alleged that the SP candidate and his supporters indulged in booth capturing and terrorized the supporters of the rival political parties in Hussainganj, Butsganj and Ismailpur area of the district.
SEC officials informed that complaints regarding rigging during poll had been received from Etawah, Etah, Shahjahanpur, Pratapgarh, Basti, Farrukhabad, Mainpuri and Kannauj. “We have directed the District Magistrates and Observer to submit their report and decision about re-poll in these districts would be taken only after studying the report”, the officials said.
Meanwhile, the SEC has removed Anil Kumar Singh CO Colonelganj (Gonda) and Veera Singh, inspector Colonelganj from ballot counting duty. Manoj Kumar Raghuvanshi in-charge of Shivkuti police station in Allahabad district had been attached to DIG office.
