Samajwadi Party members on Tuesday took to streets in Kanpur, demanding Bharat Ratna for Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav.

The SP members gathered at the Teachers' park here to press for the demand. They also submitted a memorandum to the District Magistrate, making an appeal to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to confer Bharat Ratna on the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister.

Describing Yadav as the most successful Chief Minister till date, the workers said he deserved to be honoured by the country's highest civilian award.
During his political career, Singh has undertaken several revolutionary projects for Dalits and Muslims in the state, they said.
