Alleging that the Samajwadi Party-led government had rigged the first two phases of urban local bodies elections the Congress leader and former minister Ashok Yadav on Thursday demanded that President’s rule be imposed in the state to ensure free and fair Vidhan Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh.
Yadav waived a bundle of ballot papers that he said the district magistrate Firozabad had distributed to the Samajwadi Party workers in the districts to rig the poll. Although the issue was brought to the notice of the district officials they refused to take a note of such ballot boxes, said Yadav adding that he had given documentary evidence to prove his point of poll rigging.
By getting the urban local bodies’ elections rigged Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav had given signals towards the large-scale rigging that his party proposed to do in Vidhan Sabha polls. “This was just a trailer,” said Yadav adding that more would follow in the Vidhan Sabha elections.
Yadav also used the occasion to flay the State Election Commissioner Aparamita Prasad Singh for the latter’s observations that the Governor TV Rajeswar was forwarding complaints of lowly people to SEC. How could the SEC make such observations? What mechanism he had to identify that complainant had a lowly origin, asked Yadav.
