"We had not gone to Sonia Gandhi's dinner meeting for the sake of food. We have no shortage of food. But, we went there as we would have been accused of not being a party when a secular national alternative was being formed," SP leader Amar Singh told reporters.

Flanked by RLD chief Ajit Singh, Amar Singh was speaking to reporters after submitting to President APJ Abdul Kalam letters of support to the Congress-led coalition headed by Sonia Gandhi.

The SP leader was asked whether he and Ajit Singh were invited for the meeting or went on their own.

Singh said he and Ajit Singh went along with Surjeet for the dinner meeting to make it clear that they had no ego when it came to formation of a secular government in place of the BJP-led coalition.
