SP's son held for assault on African student

Finally, after more than two months of the incident following the pressure exerted from different quarters, the city police on Saturday booked son of a Superintendent of Police (SP) in the alleged attempt to murder attack case on a Burundi national April 2012. Sachin Sharma reports.

Finally, after more than two months of the incident following the pressure exerted from different quarters, the city police on Saturday booked son of a Superintendent of Police (SP) in the alleged attempt to murder attack case on a Burundi national April 2012.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP), headquarters, Navjot Singh Mahal who is investigating in to the case told that Romi Uppal has been booked on attempt to murder charges.

Romi is son of Dharam Singh Uppal, Superintendent of Police (SP) now posted in Nawanshahr. Mahal said that police were working hard to trace out the two accused including Uppal and Amandeep Singh who are on the run in this connection.

"Besides Uppal, police were also working on to trace out other youths who were allegedly involved in the attack," said Mahal.

Till now, Uppal was considered only a suspect in this case on the basis of call records of his mobile phone, which had indicated his presence in the area of occurrence of crime, at the time when it happened.

It is worthy to mention here that Ntibateganya had blamed that more than three persons were involved in the attack on his son but case was registered against only three.

Yannick a student of B.Sc. Computers, first year, at private university near here was brutally beaten up by unidentified persons outside his rented accommodation in Dashmesh Nagar on intervening night of April 21, while he was celebrating birthday party of one of his country mate Astro, also a student in same varsity.

Since then, Yannick is battling for his life at a private hospital in Patiala where he is in coma.
