STATEWIDE DEMONSTRATIONS will be staged by the Samajwadi Party on June 13 to protest increase in the prices of petrol and diesel and other essential commodities.

Talking to newsmen here on Friday, Cabinet Minister and Chairman of UPDESCo, Surendra Mohan Agarwal, said that the SP had decided to oppose the recent price hike by staging a statewide protest on June 13.
“The Union government is responsible for this increase and it cannot escape from its responsibility,” stated Agarwal.
Further holding the Union government responsible for increase in the prices of wheat, rice and pulses, Agarwal added, “It’s a matter of grave concern that the prices of all essential commodities have gone up since the UPA government took charge.”
He added that the recent increase in price of petrol and diesel would further led to manifold increase in the prices of wheat, rice, pulses and all other essential commodities.
“Major part of trade in the State is in the hands of transporters. This increase in the prices of petrol and diesel will have a direct fallout on the freight charged by transporters, “ asserted Agarwal.
On the question of tax levied by the State government on petrol and diesel, Agarwal said, “The State government has imposed a tax of 28 per cent on petrol and diesel.” Several states governed by the Congress and BJP, including Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, had imposed a tax of more than 35 per cent on petrol and diesel, added Agarwal.
