The SP activists used this opportunity to hit hard at the Congress-led UPA government and said whenever Congress came into power, black marketing of gas cylinders, seeds and fertilizers flourished. Expressing his views on this occasion, former MLC Narendra Pratap Singh said Congress was defaming the Mulayam government over law and order issue but it had forgotten that law and order in Maharashtra and Delhi was worse.

Severely criticising the Congress and the BJP for raising unnecessary issues, SP district president Chandra Bali Yadav said BJP was raising the Afzal issue while ignoring the escalation in prices.

He accused Congress of giving step-motherly treatment to Uttar Pradesh.
Party leader Sharvan Yadav, Kirtinidhi Pandey, Venkatesh Tiwari and Sanjay Singh decided to stage a dharna to demand streamlining the supply of gas cylinders.
