In Khuldabad, Kareilly, Shahganj and Dhumanganj a conspiracy had been hatched to keep a section of voters away from polling booths, they said.

The delegation was led by senior Congress leader Anil Shashtri. Besides meeting the State Election Commissioner, Shastri said in a statement he would also meet the Election Commissioner in Delhi.

Accusing the SSP and CO-1 of supporting Samajwadi Party, he said Congress workers were being forced to surrender their weapons while Samajwadi Party workers had been allowed to keep their weapons.

Meanwhile, the district magistrate assured the delegation that he would forward their memorandum to the Election Commissioner and also promised to act fairly on all issues.

Prominent in the delegation included Rita Joshi, Shyam Surat Upadhya, Javed Urfi, Fuzail Hashmi, Kishore Varshney, Rajendra Tripathi, Ram Krishna Srivastava, Shekhar Bahuguna, Vijay Prakash, Ram Yagya Dwivedi and several others.
