If location is key to a restaurant’s success, Bandra’s latest pan-Asian restaurant can pat itself on the back. The Tasty Tangles, the Dubai-based Jumeirah group’s first restaurant venture in India, overlooks a fresh vegetable market on street just off Linking Road. Peek out of the restaurant’s large glass windows and you’ll see rows of bell peppers and mounds of onions competing for your attention, whetting your appetite in the process.

The restaurant itself is a large, cheery space that straddles the gulf between a pretentious fine dining restaurant and a generic fast food joint with its no-nonsense wooden tables and open kitchen. Despite the steady stream of diners, it felt like the perfect place to beat Bandra’s crush on a Saturday night.

A quick glance around showed us that Tasty Tangles takes its name seriously. The quirky pens on each table looked like uncoiled noodles, and even the lids of the sauce jars had tiny spirals on them. The menu is printed on an order pad — tick the dishes of your choice, tear off the leaf and hand it to the waiter. Thai, Malay and Chinese dishes dominate the compact menu. While non-vegetarians will be spoilt for choice, vegetarians have fewer options.

For the main course, we chose the kung pao chicken with egg noodles (Rs 350), and a Thai red curry with chicken (Rs 350). The first was a meal unto itself, with chicken, bean sprouts and egg noodles tossed in a black bean sauce. The Thai red curry was fragrant with basil leaves.

We finished our meal with a Sumatra chocolate and coconut pot (Rs 139). The delectable mousse had just the right hint of coconut, accompanied by mango salsa, both creating a harmony of textures on the palate. It was the
perfect way to end an enjoyable, if not outstanding, meal.
