They were arrested on Friday after a Maruti Van was intercepted near Bakhtawar area near Jharsa More in east Gurgaon, carrying spurious ghee, spices and tea materials, the police said.

After interrogation of the Maruti Van driver Ajay, raids were conducted at two manufacturing units in Delhi's Uttam Nagar and Kapas Heda areas. The police arrested three others- Divakar from the Kapas Heda Unit, Sandeep Jain and Mukesh from the Uttam Nagar unit.

“We have seized 517 litres of ghee, 502 kg of tea labelled as Tata tea, 600 kg detergent powder with labels of Ghari and Fena, 200 kg of MDH masala, three sacks of gutkha, two sacks of bidis and one box of shampoo pouch labelled as Sun Silk and other famous brands,” a police officer said.

The police suspect that a network of duplicate edible items in the NCR might have been running for the last few months. The accused were booked under various IPC sections.
