A film actor who allegedly sent a series of hoax e-mails — that claimed to unravel a terror plot to blow up the Hiranandani complex at Powai and have information about an abettor of terrorists — was arrested from Thrissur in Kerala on Sunday.
The gay actor and businessman, Anand Kumar (45), who allegedly sent the mails as he was spurned in love, reportedly told the police that he never thought the ‘internal’ mails would land him in police net.
“I wanted to teach a lesson to those who deceived me. I wanted revenge. But I never expected trouble from the police,” Anand reportedly told an officer from the Anti-Terrorism Squad.
The ‘deceivers’ were Anand’s former lover, a 35-year-old vice-president in a multinational firm, and the latter’s new-found love, who works as a HR executive in an IT firm.
Anand has been charged with spreading terror in the society and impersonation. He is likely to be produced in a Mumbai court on Monday.
The ATS team has learnt that Anand had met his partner during a social gathering at Riyadh in Saudi Arabia almost four years ago. “Anand is an NRI, having a garments business in Saudi Arabia. His lover had gone for a business rendezvous,” said Assistant Police Inspector Nisar Kulkarni.
The two would reportedly visit each other in regular intervals while shuttling between Saudi Arabia and Mumbai. A year ago, Anand’s lover reportedly found a younger (31-year-old) partner in his neighbourhood in Powai, the police said.
