The Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has ordered the banning of the controversial film The Da Vinci Code following protest from the Catholic Bishops' Conference, according to the state-owned Daily News of Thursday.
The film will not be allowed to be shown in cinema theaters and on TV channels in Sri Lanka.
There is, however, no ban on the sale of the DVD version of the film and the 2003 bestseller on which the film is based.
The film based on Dan Brown's novel had infuriated the catholic community in Sri Lanka.
In a letter to President Rajapaksa, the Catholic Bishops' Conference had said that the movie was a product of a "totally perverted mind" and that it had reached the height of moral corruption.
"It attacks the very roots of our Christian faith and hurts the religious sensibilities of all Christians," the letter said.
