“ABIDING SELF-BELIEF is the common thread that links all true achievers,” declared former India skipper Kris Srikkanth to an audience as high on his pop-declarations as on the free-flowing booze.
The former opening batsman advised the gathering to demolish self-doubt in much the same way as he once decimated wayward bowlers.
“You gotta believe you’ll succeed, and you certainly will,” declared Srikkanth, nicknamed Chika, told the eclectic gathering comprising policemen, detergent salesmen and Army officials.
The remarks came during Teacher’s Highnights, a hi-jinks celebration organised at Hotel Sayaji as a prelude to the Teacher’s Achievements Awards to be held in New Delhi.

Getting rather misty-eyed Srikkanth, listed the 1983 World Cup as the country’s greatest achievement and declared “Mushtaque Ali Khan and the great CK Nayudu” as the epitome of Indorean achievement.

{{/usCountry}}As the evening progressed, however, the jokes became distinctly off-colour moving from slightly risqué to downright vulgar and one could feel the ladies, all two of them, squirm in embarrassment.
Even given that boys will never be men is it too much to expect an evening devoted to drinking to remain devoid of double entendre, at least until the ladies have departed.
