THE SASHASTRA Seema Bal (SSB) has decided to tighten security on the Indo-Nepal border as Maoists have called for a fresh war for restoration of democracy in Nepal.
The rebels ended the four-month unilateral ceasefire at a time when the Nepal Government is getting ready to hold local bodies’ elections.
Speaking at the inaugural function of a training centre at the SSB headquarters in Gorakhpur, DIG, SSB, HS Dev said security would be beefed up. The number of SSB posts on the Indo-Nepal border will be increased.
Inaugurating the centre, inspector general, Gorakhpur zone, Vinay Kumar said that 1,000 SSB jawans would get training at the centre. The first batch will complete training in October 2006 after which they will be deployed on the border. He directed SSB jawans to maintain discipline.
About the Maoist problem, the official admitted that there were reports that rebels had stepped up their activists. However, he said SSB personnel were put on alert.
To a question, the DIG said the ISI was active on the Indo-Nepal border. He said the SSB was vigilant and any anti-social activities would be dealt with an iron hand.
Dev, who headed the 11th, 2nd, 20th and 8th Battalions in the border areas of Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar, Balrampur and Bhinga respectively, said that the Sashastra Seema Bal had been successful in apprehending four Nepali Maoists, including a woman, besides seizing articles meant for smuggling.

{{/usCountry}}Meanwhile, there were reports that Maoists set off blasts in Bhainrawa district of Nepal, which is adjacent to Nautanwa town in Maharajganj. A series of blasts reportedly rocked Bhainrawa.
