THE LAYING of the first turf cricket pitch was launched at St Andrew’s Degree College sports ground by the Gorakhpur Cricket Association. Joint secretary of the association Shafeeq Siddiqui and president RN Lal said the laying of the pitch was on under monitoring of experts who had come from Kanpur. The laying was launched by college principal JK Lal.
Lal said, “We are determined to promote cricket at St Andrew’s College and I am confident talented sports men of the city if trained properly facilities can bring fame to the country as well as the district.”
Shafeeq said with this turf wicket, cricketers would get facilities of practising on it and it would be a first degree college where international standard turf cricket pitch would be laid.
Lal said a dressing room would also be constructed.
