He said that a team of the United Nation International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and World Health Organisation (WHO) would monitor the vaccination drive.

UNICEF would deploy a team of experts at each of the five blocks to monitor the children after the vaccination. The vaccine is cent per cent effective in case of JE, Dr Biswas said.

According to officials, 749 teams of paramedical staff would be deployed to cover 13.90 lakh children from one to 15 years of age group in Gorakhpur district. Similarly, 302 teams, each consisting five members, would be deployed to cover 7.76 lakh children in Maharajganj, 580 teams would cover 10.74 lakh children in Deoria and in 652 teams would cover 10.85 lakh children in Kushinagar.

After deaths of around 30,000 children, the government has come out of its slumber and decided to launch a vaccination drive. However, no proper publicity has been made by the health officials to inform the people about the drive.

The success of the vaccination drive depends on the participation of people in remote areas. The health officials said that AD Syringes, ILRs, deep freezers, cold chain boxes and vaccine carriers arrived and the preparations were made for the success of the drive.
