Stamps released featuring Indian dogs

The stamp release marked the celebration of the Canine heritage of India by the department of Communications and depicted the Himalayan Sheep Dog, the Rampur Hound, the Mudhol Hound and the Rajapalayam.

The minister complemented the Kennel club of India for donating Rs five lakh towards the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund, an official press release said here today.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Maran said dogs were man's best friend and cited the instance of a pet dog saving a seven-year-old boy from the tsunami.

Complimenting the efforts of the KCI to breed Rajapalayam dogs in the city, he expressed the hope that it would breed other rare Indian varieties such as the Rampur hound to make them popular worldwide.
