If you have it then flaunt it! Never mind the style but make sure it’s in your face. And that exactly seemed to be the dress code at the party hosted by Upendra Kumar Sharma at Kamal Mahal, ITC Maurya Sheraton, to celebrate the launch of his exclusive solitaire boutique Suryansh at South Ex II recently.
Kumar with his outdated Sony Ericsson HBH-65 greeted the Bollywood brigade that was present in full swing at the flashy do. “This is a 35-carat diamond that my wife Archana is wearing,” proudly announced Kumar. And even before you could ask her how many of these rocks she owns, Archana said: “This is nothing. The biggest one I have is a 55-carat stone, but I don’t know what cut it is.”

Preeti Jhangiani, who is still waiting for that big hit, came dressed in a turquoise Provogue kurti. “Functions in Delhi are definitely more flashy and loud as compared to Mumbai, where most of the things are done in a subtle and sophisticated manner,” said Preeti, who happily obliged shutterbugs and eager fans with interviews and autographs.

Dressed in a typical Pakistani outfit that was gifted to her on her recent visit to that country as a UN ambassador of peace was Urmila Matondkar. “I went there with three outfits in my suitcase and came back with my bags full. The work on these outfits is absolutely gorgeous,” said Urmila, a voracious reader who is now enjoying The Short Stories Of Rabindranath Tagore.

Everything from Russian dancers to PYTs moving to beats of popular hip-shaking numbers was there to enthrall the crowds at the do that had glitter and glamour in huge doses, much like how diamonds are. Wonder how many of these real rocks did the reel stars get for making a fleeting appearance?
