STATE ENVIRONMENT minister Ujjawal Raman Singh has said that vehicular pollution was among the major source of pollution and the state government has decided to implement the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fuel scheme in Lucknow, Kanpur and Agra primarily to check this pollution.
While speaking at a seminar ‘Marusthal and Marusthali’, organised by the environment department at CMS Gomti Nagar auditorium, the minister also said that there were several practical problems in the Ganga Action Plan (GAP) due to which the river, revered by many, could not be cleaned up to the desired level.
The minister said that the government has now started another scheme, which aims at taking up the river’s clean-up exercise seriously. He admitted that though there were various rules and regulations to preserve environment, still a lot needed to be done.
He said that though there were various rules etc on paper to preserve the environment and punish the guilty, the reality was very different.
