The state government has shortlisted a divisional commissioner, a district magistrate and over three dozen PCS officers who have to be given marching orders following the Election Commission's directives to shift those who have completed three years on any post in Uttar Pradesh.
As Election Commission has extended the last date for publishing the final electoral rolls to January 15, 2007 the officers linked directly with the preparation of the electoral rolls would be shifted after deadline.
Those to be shifted out include the Divisional Commissioner Moradabad KS Atoria and the District Magistrate Pratapgarh RS Verma. About three to four dozen officers of Additional District Magistrates and SDMs in many districts are also being shifted. This figure may even cross figure of 50, said a senior officer of the state government adding lists of officers to be transferred were being given final touches.
A question mark hangs over the fate of many others who though do not fall in this category would have to be shifted in next few days in the backdrop of EC's directives. A senior officer of the State Appointment Department said the list of officers to be shifted was being prepared. Many CDOs and other officers not linked to electoral exercise would be shifted even before the deadline, he said adding the transfer orders of officers of other services deployed on poll duty would be issued by officers of other departments.

A number of officers of ASP rank were recently shifted. Officers at various other levels were however yet to be shifted, he said adding the Election Commission was keeping a close watch over the situation.
