State leads in gram yield

THE CURRENT data of the yield of various agricultural produce places Madhya Pradesh at the first position in gram cultivation. The State ranks third in the production of mustard crop.

According to the latest reports, the state produces 25.36 lakh metric tonnes of gram over a cultivated area of 25.76 lakh
hectares.

This brings the average yield to 931 kilogram per hectare. The other major gram producing states are Uttar Pradesh (7.80 lakh metric tonne), Rajasthan (6.80 lakh met. tonnes) and Maharashtra (5.80 lakh met. tonnes).

The State has been placed third in mustard production behind Rajasthan (26.50 lakh met. tonnes) and Uttar Pradesh (10.90 lakh met. tonnes). The State currently produces 6.70 lakh met. tonnes of mustard, over a cultivated area of seven lakh hectares of land. This brings the average yield to 949 kilograms of mustard per hectare.
