Even as the state government cleared the proposal to pay degree college teachers as per the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission, the indefinite strike entered its day 11 on Friday.
“Getting a pay revision as per the Sixth Pay Commission was the least of our concerns. There are other more important issues that haven’t been resolved,” said C.R. Sadasivan, president of the Maharashtra Federation of University and College Teachers Organisation.
Federation members will meet on July 26 to make another proposal and send it to the government.
The government will wait for the outcome of their meeting. “If the demands are genuine, they will be met. If not, they won’t,” said J.S. Sahariya, principal secretary, higher education.
College principals are also waiting for the strike to end. “Teachers are also getting impatient and its not a good feeling to sign the stroke register everyday ,” said Principal Kirti Narain of Jai Hind College.
About 30,000 teachers from 11 universities across the state are on an indefinite strike from July 14.
