A day after the designated court dropped the stringent anti-organised crime Act against the 2008 Malegaon blast accused, the state decided to challenge the court order.
Chief Minister Ashok Chavan announced the decision at a Congress rally in Pune on Saturday.
“We will not be mute spectators, but fight right up to the Supreme Court,” Chavan said, adding there would be no compromise in the 2008 Malegaon blast case “at any cost”.
Six people died and over 100 were injured when a bomb ripped through the textile town on September 29, 2008.
Eleven people were arrested in connection with the blast including Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, Sudhakar Dhar Dwivedi alias Dayanand Pandey and Lt. Col. Shrikant Purohit.
The MCOCA court has, however, stayed implementation of its order — dropping the MCOCA charge — so that the prosecution can appeal in the high court.
While Congress leaders refrained themselves from making any comments on the Nationalist Congress Party — its partner in the state government — they appealed to party workers “not to believe any rumours on differences among the leaders”.
Referring to a demand made by Pune MP Suresh Kalmadi on the Metro rail project there, the CM said: “Come with a concrete proposal. We are there to help you out.”
