State tops in PMGSY

MADHYA PRADESH is number one in the country in implementing the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). According to a Government press release issued on Tuesday, the State has constructed 11,110 km long 2,384 roads under the scheme, connecting 4,134 villages.

MADHYA PRADESH is number one in the country in implementing the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). According to a Government press release issued on Tuesday, the State has constructed 11,110 km long 2,384 roads under the scheme, connecting 4,134 villages.

A sum of Rs 2403.24 crore was spent under the scheme against Rs 2693.52 crore received till October this year in the State. Besides, the State has already set a target of linking villages having more than 1,000 population with round the year roads by 2009 under the Bharat Nirman Yojana.

Villages having more than 500 of population in the notified areas will also be connected with roads. A total of 27,561 km new roads will be constructed along with upgradation of 18,627-kilometre long roads.

Madhya Pradesh in the sixth phase of road construction has been sanctioned Rs 1296.10 crore this year for preparing 5653 km long 1,243 roads.

Besides, the State has also received financial sanction of Rs 560.71 crore for construction of 2501 km long 546 roads from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
