Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan on Monday warned police officers, who avoided working in the naxal-affected Gadchiroli district, saying the state was watching them.
Chavan, who along with home minister RR Patil had visited the district on Monday, said he had taken serious note of the fact that many officers avoided going to Gadchiroli even if they were posted there. Several police officers have died in naxal attacks in Gadchiroli in recent times.
“Even I have noticed that government employees seek immediate transfers if they are posted here,” Chavan said while addressing local officials at Gadchiroli.
“I am not in favour of such transfers. I have asked the administration to make a list of such staffers. I will take cognisance of this.”
Chavan was reacting to a demand made by Patil who is also the district’s guardian minister. “We have a grudge. Most government employees or officers are reluctant to work here. They avoid coming here once they are posted,” Patil said.
He said he had made it mandatory in his department that nobody posted here will be transferred.
Local administration in Gadchiroli was suffering because other departments were not getting enough staff members willing to work in Gadchiroli.
Chavan, who is one of the few chief ministers to have visited Gadchiroli, said the people of the district were suffering due to the growing naxal menace and slow pace of development. He assured that the government would pay more attention to the neglected district.
