"To minimise the frequency of accidents in Pahalgam, locals and tourists have been asked to ensure their safety and well being," said district magistrate Anantnag Kifayat Hussain Rizvi.

Three people died in the river last week when two vehicles skidded into it in the night. A girl drowned in the same river on Tuesday.

The authorities have asked traveler to maintain safe distance from the river, which runs ferocious. "Travellers should not venture into its water at any point," said the advisory.

The advisory has come on the heels of the Amarnath Yatra, which starts June 29. The devotees travel through Pahalgam to reach the shrine. "All are asked to abide by the traffic rules and abstain from overtaking," said Rizvi adding, "people are asked not drink alcohol and erect tents in the vicinity of the resort".
