Steve Tikolo has been at the forefront of Kenya's rise up world cricket's ladder. Probably the best batsman outside the Test playing nations, Tikolo has proven himself a fine leader.

Coming from a famous cricketing family he is a natural timer of the ball, relying on an excellent eye. He scored 65 in his and the teams international debut in their first game, against India at Cuttack. He also top-scored with 29 in their sensational victory over West Indies at Pune, and scored another classy 96 against Sri Lanka at Kandy, establishing himself as his country’s leading batsman. This was further established when he made a 147 against Bangladesh in the 1997 ICC Trophy final, thus leading Kenya to a second successive World Cup.

Tikolo has been also useful with the ball with his off-cutters, and his spell of 3 for 29 at Gwalior in 1997-98 which helped Kenya gained a first ODI victory against India.
