A day after Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik arrived in Hyderabad, Ayesha Siddiqui, who claims to be his first wife, gave an emotional interview to Indian TV channels. “He is a liar... I will not spare him, no matter what,” said Siddiqui in the interview. Her interview came hours after Malik said in an interview that he was “cheated by her family”.

As Shoaib and tennis ace Sania Mirza prepare for their wedding on April 15, Shoaib’s family has hired Delhi-based lawyer Ramesh Gupta to represent him in court against charges by the Siddiquis. Speaking to HT City, Gupta said, “He has denied marrying this girl.”

Gupta explained that the document the Siddiqui family claims is a nikahnama isn’t one. “He never signed a nikahnama. He had just signed his consent to marriage at a later date.”

Gupta refuted any legal ramifications of a telephonic marriage that Ayesha’s family claims was held. “The shariat does not recognise a telephonic marriage,” he said. While the Siddiqui family is contemplating legal action, Gupta said they will have to wait. “We are not filing a defamation suit. If they will send a court notice, only then will we respond to it.”

Meanwhile, Sania’s family said the wedding will take place in Hyderabad, as planned, and not in Rajasthan, as rumoured. The couple was spotted in Sania’s Banjara Hills penthouse on Saturday, rehearsing a romantic dance performance for a pre-wedding ceremony.
